Hello everyone 🙂
97 Ranger XLT 2wd, auto, 4.0 5R55E
Trans and torque converter was rebuilt in 2017. 200,000+ miles 🤦 started shuddering when switching from 2-3(40-50mph or so) then started to high rev. The rpm would jump when this would occur. Then it wouldn't accelerate normally in D ( this is when I found out that my 1st gear doesn't seem to exist) narrowing down my initial issue but need to figure out this 1st gear problem

Not my first vehicle but is my first automatic as well as Ford. Anyways
What I've done so far:
Pcv
Rear Speed sensor
Filter
Gasket(cork)
Valve body gaskets
Solenoid harness
I can't really find anything on how to adjust the shift linkage cable so that 1st gear will work. Can anyone shoot me a link to a step by step video or advice please and thank you ?!

the 2-3 flare is one of the more common issues on these, there are plenty of kits from sonnax, transgo, and superior to remedy this. the symptoms point to a VB issue. are you looking to adjust the shift indicator? or the cable to tranny? the indicator, iirc under the dash there is an adjuster, just scroll. usually 5r55e+rebuild doesnt lend itself to particularly great long term results, it depends LARGELY upon the skill/familiarity of the shop doing the work. usually a reman yeilds better results, but alas!

Do you have manual 1 and 2?

still think its something in the VB. still got reverse? if so, i wonder if its a combo of the typical 2-3 flare and an accumalator or modulator. whats the pressure like in 1st? maybe the range sensor? not too sure odd that 2nd works though, cause thats OD+1st

For just the loss of manual 1, Ford manual suggests following issues:

-Loose VB/blown gasket
-SSA/SSB solenoids stuck/damaged/leaking
-check ball A damaged
-low line pressure
-harness issue
-reverse band broken/burnt
-reverse servo failed
-reverse drum/one way clutch fail
-rear one way clutch damaged
