Opened up the 5R55E filter today for inspection. Changed it initially at 20k miles and now it's at 95k miles, so this is from 75k miles of light use and a properly working tranny.

Fragments stick to a neo magnet, which makes them steel.

Is this degree/type of accumulation normal given the mileage, or should I be looking deeper while the VB is off?

Wouldn't worry me if I found that in my pan.

no blown gasket

I think your transmission is probably OK. This is what my filter looked like after my valve body gasket blew out.

The red arrow identifies the broken off piece of solenoid bracket. The blue arrows identify the multiple pieces of blown out gasket that were missing. The gold arrows identify the larger fragments of what appears to be brass. There is a magnetic strip in the pan to catch steel particles.

Thanks, guys. I'll sleep better now.

Nice IDs, streetrod! Comforting to have a full accounting of the wayward bits. Didn't see any brass in my filter - just thin dark steel and the occasional shiny chunk.

You should be fine, parts are gonna wear and there will always be little metal shavings left from machining floating around.

I had those in my pan after the torque converter went bad, but the fluid was dark and very burned.
