I've been working on a missing first gear problem and was looking for some help. I lost first gear. If I take off in second the rest of the gears shift like normal. No trouble codes. Dropped pan shift solenoid ohms out and is clicking like it should. All other solenoid ohms out fine What would be the next step in troubleshooting this problem? Thanks

Do you have any problems with reverse? The rear band, and servo control reverse, and first gear. It's called the low/reverse servo, and band. Sometimes the end of the servo gets chipped. Drop the pan, and the square cover. Remove the 4 bolts, and pull out the servo.

Have you checked your shift linkage ? The range sensor could be damaged or out of adjustment. The next idea is to pull the VB and look for a gasket problem.

i have a 1997 ford explorer xl 4.0 e.f.i v-6 ohv/cologne sohc v-6 with a 5r55e i have a problem 1st gear slipping i change the filter the pan was 100% clean no metal shaving

i check the fluid level is perfect how do i do Check the valve body gasket, and the low/reverse servo seals.

You have to remove the servo to see if the servo seals are flat or deteriorated. The gaskets will flake apart on the sides. Check the valve body bolts to see if they are loose. The first area to get loose is near the EPC solenoid.
