Hi all,
Trying to help my son with his recently bought 2001 explorer sport 4.0 sohc 2x4, hi mileage but very clean.
It shifts fine, both up and down until driven over 45 mph or so.Then it stalls when coming to a stop. If restarted in neutral then placed in drive it stalls.
Start in neutral, shift to reverse, then drive and all is good ,driving and stopping until over 45mph.

No O/D light flashing.
No codes.Checked with Snap-on scanner by mech. friend. (solus)sp?

I pulled V/B thinking torn sep.plate gasket. Pan was very clean, just usual fuzz on magnet. Gaskets good, transtec marking so I think not Ford?
Solenoids all ohm checked at 5,11,and 27.Only removed one spool valve at TCC sol. and it was free. I also removed and checked BOO switch.

Did Not Do..
prior line pressure test.
band adj. check

I am a cabinetmaker by trade, but have sucessfully rebuilt several each chevy trans.(700r4,t350,powerglide).
I have tried searches and such for 2 weeks brfore this post.

Seems mechanical, not electrical? Thanks for any help, advice.

Brake Pedal Position Switch?

I suggest that you check the brake pedal position (BPP) switch activated by the brake pedal. If the switch is failed off or not connected the torque converter clutch will not disengage when the brake is applied. The BPP switch has two sections. One section activates the stop lights and the other section is connected to the PCM, speed servo control, GEM, etc. On my 2000 Sport power for the second section comes from Fuse 9 (7.5 amps) in the Central Junction Box.

BOO/BPP switch

2000StreetRod ,
Thank you for your reply.I did some checking and it appears the switch was renamed in 2000.Pictures found looks the same. This is the switch I've checked previously for function only.I did not know fuse location. Will check fuse ASAP. Thanks again , Will post progress.
