I had our 98 Explorer Sport 2 WD (150.000 Miles) at a Transmission-Shop to have the codes read out and to service the Transmission.
Maybe I should adress the problem first......
As the car is cold, it drives and shifts perfect. As it gets warmer and to its normal themperatur it still drives and shifts ok.
Theh problem starts, when I have to stop at a red light. The transmission does not shift in neutral automaticly as it should and kills the motor.
Shifting in "P", starting the motor, shifting in "D" and slightly pushing the gas peddal moves the car forward, but not in the first gear as its supposed to.
Feels more than in the third gear. pushing the gas pedal harder lets the transmission shift down but not in the lowest gear.
shifting while driving is still feeling perfect.
When they dropped the pan, they found light brownish marterial in the pan and also little little metal parts which you only could see shining while holding it in the sun.
These are the codes:
P 1740 TCC Inductive fault
P 0741 TCC Stuck off
P 0133 02 CH (?? can´t read that clear) slow
P 0153 02 CH (?? can´t read that clear) slow

According to the explaining, my torque-converter is making problems.
As I plan to install a new or rebuild one this is not what I am worried about.
It also seems, that the solenoids are working properly after the service has been done, so i am assuming, that they might have been clocked up with the metal parts.
Just thinking through everything...... I think, the problem is the torque-converter where the metalparts are coming from.
BUT I have no knowledge about transmissions at all...
Does anyone of you guys had had the same problem yet and has any idea to solve the problem?
Unfortunately I can not go to have it fixed, since money is tight right now.

I am sorry, if there was already a thread about this..... I could´nt find it.

Welcome to this forum! The TCC & EPC solenoids are modulated, and considered high wear parts. How big are those metal pieces? A small amount the size of fine powder is normal, but if it's bigger, then you might have to rebuild everything. Start with the solenoids, clean fluid, filter, and add a drain plug to the pan with an external filter to catch any further fragments.

well.... that sounds great to me.....

the transmission guys did a service on it and listet fluid and filters on the bill.
right now.. like i sayes.. it works ok.
the metal parts you were asking for... are very very little, can´t even tell the shape of them. I could not see them in the shop, had to step outside to have the son reflect on them to see it.
And I would say it was not that many.
What would you suggest about the codes I posted earlier?

Thanks for replaying that fast
