I have a 2000 explorer 4.0 ohv 148,000 miles that has the 2-3 flare and has some slippage in 1st and reverse. I pulled the pan to change the fluid and filter see if that would help it did not. the only material in the pan was gray metallic dust stuck to the pan magnet about 1/8 in deep and covering the pan bottom. With 148,000 should I buy a rebuilt vb instead of rebuilding the one in the explorer do to potential wear in the bores etc or is this not a concern? Will adjusting the low reverse band help with the slippage? There is no slippage if you put it in 1st then manually shift to second then drive just the 2-3 flare does that mean that the low/ reverse band is good? The problem is worse after the transmission is warm also. Any and all thoughts welcome.
