I have a problem with my 1999 Explorer XLS 4.0 with 5r55e transmission.
In the morning it will engage in any gear for about 5-50 feet at a time and disengage the gear. I let the RPMs come down and wait and it will kick in again. After I have driven about a mile it will be fine for the rest of the day. I feel like this has something to do with the temperature of the solenoids warming up and helping them not stick. I have just been dealing with it for a few months and it is starting to get to be an inconvenience. What should I start with? Drop the Pan and inspect everything visually? I have done plenty of service and repairs on engines and I am fairly competent, but I have never gotten into transmissions as of yet.
What recommendations do you all have?
Thanks,
Jeff
