That is pretty cool! The pics and descriptions are better than our Ford shop manuals here at the dealership.

This information is also lised on other websites such as Dead Link Removed. Check the links in # 69 in my list of useful threads. RatioTek has an entire CD with information like that. I have version 4, but they are up to version 5 now.

the dealer overhaul manuals are better then wsm. the blue books with pictures color coding etc.

Great info! But, Alas, my '05 Expl. w/ 5R55S has NO converter drain access in the "bell" housing, and NO converter drain plug.

Just thought other guys should not be misled who have same un-drainable converter like I do, so they don't think theirs is NOT a 5R55S or W. imp

its still a nice write up for an early build 5r55s/w

Finding those books are almost impossible and also our dealership is cheap and wont buy them. We have most of the old ones from the 80-90s lol.

A few thoughts:

From looking at the pictures of the pan (Pg 6), it seems obvious to me that as long as the vehicle is level side to side, that some minor unlevelness front to rear will not markedly change the actual fill level, as the plug is close to the front to rear center of the pan.

Page 7 shows a fill plug. I'm wondering if I can fill it from this location instead of the bottom plug, just using it to tell me when I've hit the full level.

As was stated above, pages 8 and 63 show a torque converter drain plug and bell housing access port. Does this mean that my 5R55W has this (I will crawl up under and check some day).

The valve body diagram on page 10 and accompanying legend on page 11 are inconsistent. This is a public service warning for those who might consider this a default to use as a guide instead of keeping track of bolts when doing valve body work. Specifically, Page 10 shows 8 "E" bolts but the legend says 7 on page 11, and there are 2 bolts labelled "G" on page 11, one stating one bolt and the other with 4 (reverse servo bolts), but only 4 are shown on page 10 (also on the reverse servo), so buyer beware.

I printed this out from the list of useful threads some time ago, in anticipation (and fear) of doing my tranny some day.
