I know that stock area is 6x8 but that means i must use an oval speaker that sounds like poop. Then i must go with a 5x7 plate that fits a 4in. mid and 1in. tweet. 4in. mid is too small, i wanna throw in some focals, polk mm6's or something of that effect. So i was just wondering if any one has had success fitting in a 6.5 in the doors for a 92 xlt. Thanks
Several people on the site have done it. I've been reading lots & lots of old posts over the last few days, some even include pictures. Use the search function and you'll get lots of results. I ran my search using "component speakers" and got 12-13 pages. I realize you may not be doing components but from a mounting & installation standpoint, the info you find should still be useful. Good luck!
Just cut out an oval out of MDF or plywood and cut the proper hole in the middle for the 6.5 mid. Drill holes and mount the spacer to the door using the factory screws from the factory speaker, cover the spacer and door with a sound deadener. and mount the 6.5" speaker.
