Yesterday I got around to replacing the valve body in my Explorer. It started fine and shifts gears smoothly from P to R, then N and into D (huge clunk while shifting is gone). So now I need to follow the relearn procedure.
But, I have seen 2 different methods. One described here:
http://m.autoserviceprofessional.com/article/94753/ford-trans-relearn
And the other here:http://www.sonnax.com/articles/355-ford-6r60-clearing-the-kam-shift-adapt-relearn-procedure
Which should I use? If it's the first, there is no level area I can drive without first driving several miles. The second sounds easy enough, but is the trans even going to shift with the revs that low? There is no shift notification so how do I know it went from 1st to 5th? Even then I am a little worried as the roads here are fairly winding, so easily getting up to 5th may be challenging.
Am I reading too much into the procedure? Is it simply a car of driving and getting up to about 50mph, slow down and repeat?
Thanks.
