Hi all,

I'm here for ask to you a question regarding the rear axle in an Explorer.
I'm looking for a Ford 8.8 axle and I found one Explorer but I don't have a lot of information about it.
The only things I know are that it is an Explorer Sport 4.0 2wd automatic 1998.
In this moment the owner can not tell me what is write in the axle tag or in the door sticker.
I live in The Netherlands so maybe the model can be different from the USA model.
I need to know if it is a 31 spline and the gear ratio (I'm looking for the 4.10 one).

Many thanks in advance.

Transmission and Axle Codes:

This code can be found in the sticker on the driver's side door, under the "AXLE" section (see image below, number 9).

And yes, it is 31 spline - all Explorer 8.8 axles are 31 spline.

Old post I know but in search this is as close as I got to what I want to know, which is - what does it ALL MEAN???????, as in the meaning of each individual code  :australia

I don't mean just axle codes but all of them on the door sticker, thanks for the quick answer though

Although not specific to your vehicle, this should explain the sticker codes.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was after  :D

Hello my friends I am from Brazil and I'm having the same difficulty, I have a doubt about the axle code that was installed in my 1994 Explorer XLT manual gearbox, my problem is that the ID tag of the door is cut precisely and lack the part that indicates the axle code, someone can tell me if it is possible to know which is through the chassis number.

Look for the tag on the differential

Hello friends, I need some information for my 1994 Explorer XLT 4x4, which measure the ring and pinion should I use on the front axle to the rear axle when using the measure 4.1?

You must use the same gear ratio on both axles.

If you have a 4.10:1 rear axle you must use a 4.10:1 gear ratio in the Dana 35.
