I have a 92 X Xlt 4x4 with 3.73's and lsd and am looking into getting some gear sets and in my investigations I have found differences in kits for reverse and standard 8.8 axles. I know the d35 ttb is reverse but is too the 8.8? Im in no hurry to get this done but I would like to know well before I go a-leepin'. Thank you.

Also I know someone has to have asked this eons ago but my search box wont work. Sorry for the superfluous nature of my inquiry. ..

If the 8.8 was used in front axle applications, it would have been operated in "reverse direction" when moving forward. The whole problem stems from the "cut" of gear teeth being weaker when the gears turn backwards, as in the rear axle, when the vehicle goes backwards. In the front axle, the gears turn "backwards" when the vehicle is moving forward, which is most of the time, and under heaviest power demand.

Because of this consideration of front axle use, two "fixes" have been used. One uses a ring and pinion having "reverse cut" teeth; the other takes the whole standard-cut pumpkin and turns it upside down! In those, the pinion gear and it's bearings are way up high, and get less lubrication, not a good thing, as the highly-preloaded pinion bearings are a source of lots of heat.

Now, what did you want to know again? imp ;)
