I always use 93 octane in my Mountaineer that has a Powerdyne, but was thinking that it would be logical to be able to run either 87 or 89 in the winter when temps are in the single digits as the cold air coming in would in itself resist detonation...

Thoughts?

If the tune is specifically written for 91/93 octane, then you need to stick with it. Yeah, you might get away with it for a little while, or you may not.
If you don't have a tune, and you're relying on the stock ecm to compensate for your blower, then you are already on ragged edge, even with the 93 octane.

It's not worth risking your expensive engine, to save, literally, a few dollars each fill-up. I believe the term is "false economy".

I do have a custom tune and the timing is advanced a bit...thanks for the info..thinking it thru it would be safer to spend a little on gas then engine repair.

I could just drive with not going into boost, but then there would always be that time where you forget for a minute and boom...
