A good day turned bad when one of the freeze plugs I was trying to remove went inward (instead of turning sideways as they usually do) and has now made home inside the water jacket. I might be able to get it back into view, but it's not looking good for ever getting it out of the hole with the engine installed.

Can I leave it there in the water jacket or will it seriosly effect the cooling system and cause overheating etc?

It's a rather high milage engine, and I'm considering a remanufactured engine in the future, (but I'm just hoping I can keep this engine for at least another year or two) and will be using a rubber expansion plug as this particular freeze plug would be impossible to tap into place with the engine installed.

Help or suggestions needed?

I wouldn't leave a freeze plug in there. It can seriously restrict coolant flow and cause you to have hotspots and overheat a portion of the engine without really knowing you are.

As for removal Do you have access to long 90 degree needlenose pliers and an inspection mirror? I find them rather usefull when fishing around for "lost" parts.

Good Luck
