Hey guys,

Just saw an ad in a local paper for a 96 4.0 and it said it was out of an Explorer. The ad said it only had 26K miles and that was all it said about the engine. It did not say whether it was an OHV or SOHC, but from what I can find, the SOHC's did not come out until 97, but you know how some people are about years and ads. I do not know if the computer, fuel injection, ect. comes with it and have not called yet considering the time. The price was listed as $450/obo. This sounds good to me if it only has 26K on it. I am thinking about replacing my 91 4.0 that has around 170K, but is running fine and not using oil. I figured for the price, it could be considered as preventive medicine.
Now for the questions.

First of all, I would assume if this (96) is the OHV, then it should bolt up to my A4LD (just as my 91 is currently), tranny without any problem. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Second, if needed, would the computer from my 91 work on this engine if the computer does not come with it?

If the complete fuel injection system does not come with the newer engine, will the 91 fit and do just as well?

Last question, if this happens to be an SOHC instead, will it bolt up to my tranny without any problem, or would it have to be replaced? I like the thoughts of an extra 50 HP. I do know that there would be a difference in the fuel injection as well as the computers between the 2 models.

I appreciate any input you all may have. Thanks in advance.
