Hey guys, I did a search on this but couldnt turn up a whole lot of info about it. I would like to change over to disc brakes on the rear, but I'm not sure what all I will need to change.
First off, I read in another thread that all the 8.8in rear housings have the same outter flanges, which should, in theory, allow brake components from all 8.8's to interchange. I am considering using 95 explorer discs and calipers, but I dont know if the axles are the same length. Meaning the distance from the housing flange to the wheel mounting surface. Can anyone confirm that these brakes will work on my car?
Second, the master cylinder situation, I know that drums require more pressure, but discs often require a higher fluid volume. Can I get away with an adjustable prop. valve to balance the rears, or do I need a disc/disc M/C. Also, my X has ABS, will this be affected in a negative way by going to rear discs.
Also, are 95 explorer rear discs a vented rotor like the fronts, or are they a crappy solid rotor like SN95 mustang rears? If they're solids, does anyone know of a vented rotor setup that will swap?
Is there anything else that I missed that could make this swap go bad? I've done drum to disc conversions on my 66 mustang, so I'm confident in my brake skills.
Thanks in advance,
TJ
