My questions are being derived from:
http://www.4x4central.com/discswap.html

I'm interested in this swap merely for the added stopping power, and the overall 'coolness' of having disc brakes all around.

My first question is this... During the installation of the rear disc brakes, I noticed in the link i posted, there is a picture with what looks like the brake shoes still installed... Were they removed? Or left in there?

This is what I'm thinking, but i don't know how right or wrong i am; i'm thinking that they were left in there, and the rotor was installed over them. Instead of the brake fluid line powering the shoes, they will now power the calipers installed, and the only thing powering the shoes will be when the parking brake is applied.

This is what is throwing me for a loop, the one picture of the shoes still installed, do they come off, or does the rotor go over it, or what!?

Anyone that has done this, do you have any pictures of these few steps? This is the only step holding me back, I want to be sure i know what i'm doing when i start.

i'm gonna try and hand draw up an "exploded view" of what i'm thinking... and make sure that's right.

You don't need an exploded view. The pictures show it. They aren't the same shoes from your drum brakes.

The rotor has a small fdrum built into it that fits over those shoes.

are those shoes teh old ones? or new ones specifically made for parking brakes?

i woudln't have posted this thread if i could see it.

i don't understand how he's getting to that poitn. i know he took the old drum off, but did he leave the shoes on just for the parking brake? or are those newer? i emailed him but haven't gotten a reply. and those pictures don't help at all in my case.

i'm just trying to figure out, are the brake shoes that are on it at the end, the original ones that were used with the drums, and the rotors were placed over it for the parking brake. or are those different?

Those brake shoes are much smaller, and with different hardware just for the parking brake. The disk will not fit over your shoes from the original drum brakes, you will need to get the stuff to put these little shoes on there.

Edit: Looks like Froader beat me to it
