So it all started when when my e-brake light came on then my rear antilock light,
they when on off then stayed on all the time, fill the brake fluid and the lights went away but the rear antilock light occationally will come on still. but when im not in 4x4, it sounds like my right brakes seize up almost like abs is acting up when its not supposed to, and then when turn slowly it sounds like both sides never at the same time - the axels will pop and loud jerk or pop will happen any idea's whats going on? sounds rather horrible any help is appreciated.

Considering your '91 doesn't have ABS on the front, I wouldn't be looking at an ABS issue if the noise is coming from the front. Perhaps something else in the brakes (sticking caliper, kinked brake hose, missing anti-rattle clips on the pads or something else).

The first thing I think of, however, is something in the hubs. The stock auto hubs are always having problems. If they are locking/unlocking at random or trying to lock when they shouldn't, they will make noises. 1st make sure the hubs are clean (they shouldn't be full of grease).

I always cheat when I have brake or similar issues. I take it to les schwab and have them look at it/test drive it. they have always found the problem. they will give you a horribly high quote and tell you what needs to be done. then i just do it myself. to get out of there without an apointment i tell them i dont have the money right them.

Have you cleaned and lubed the caliper slide pins and the grooves in the caliper they slide against? Have you checked your pads on both sides, inner and outer?

Welcome to the site!

That does sound like the autohubs not disengaging, or possibly u-joints, or possibly the slide pins.

If you have time, do some searching here, all of these things are well explained.

If you are short on time, I agree with Noved, take it to a shop for an estimate, then decide if you want to DIY. If you can talk them into it, make them show you the bad parts on the truck.

Hope this helps. Let us know how it goes.

Mike
