91 Ford Ranger 4x4 starter & flywheel problems.

Hi posties,

I got this Ford that keeps grinding whenever I turn the ignition on. I have already bought a new starter and changed the flywheel. Its ok for a week and then the grinding begins.
i have just removed the new flywheel and it is totally worned out at the teeth. So I ordered a new one and installed it, sadly it is still the same.
Any sugestions please?

maybe theres an electrical problem causeing the bendix to stay engaged after the car is started. i had myine do it a few times the 2 wires on the starter could be toaching or swapped around. but thas just a guess

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread into the Ranger section. Which engine do you have (3.0L or 4.0L)?

Drednaut nailed it i was having issues with burning starters out, and turned out it was a ground faulting out and the little power cable to the starter, turned out the end went out on it

basically, go through all your wiring for the starting system, we removed mine completely and walked through it to determine what was good and wasn't and worked from there. Dont be intimidated from it for its a few grounds, and a couple power cables.
