91 Ford Ranger XLT, 2WD
OK, so I'm new here. So if this is the wrong place for this I apologize lol.

Anyways, I have a 91 ranger. I totaled the body, but everything else is great still, she still fires right up and prrrs lol. I'm looking to find another body and swap all of my guts into it.. How old and how new can I go without changing any wires mounts etc.?

I have the 2.3L 8 plugs engine, m5od transmission. 2WD.

Thanks!!

i think all bodies should fit ,,
that being said, craigslist another truck maybe get a body for cheap with a gaffed engine,,

Yes, they should.. But things changed over the years with the sensors and what not. Hints why I said without changing any wiring etc. I'd have to get another 2.3 with the m5od transmission. I just want a straight drop in job in other words lol.

Even during same year models, there can be different PCM's, and wires are all different depending on the exact model. There is no such thing as a "simple, drop in" engine swap. Anyway, you have a first generation ranger, but the second body style. '82-'92 is first generation, but '88-'92 is the style you have.

But if I found any 2x4 ranger from 88-92 with the same engine and transmission package as mine. Everything should be the same correct? Or did some of the years in that range have different ignitions, fuel injection etc? Surely 91 isn't the only year set up like mine? A budy of mine has a 92 ranger, aside from the paint it seems to be a mirror image of mine.

Well, I don't think anyone here on the explorer section can give you specific answers, maybe try the ranger section. The explorers made a pretty good change from 91-93 to 94, but look almost identical. Judging from that you might be ok. Again, you are asking in the explorer section, where everyone has the 4.0 OHV. You will probably be ok with any 88-92 ranger, but it is likely you will need the pcm from your current truck.
