I changed the rear pads on my 91

X. The drivers side was fine plenty of pad left, but the passanger side was shot. I had a verry hard time getting the drum off and noticed some break fluid leaking from inside the parking break was almost inpossible to put back on its bracket when I put the new drum on it would not fit even with the adjustment all the way down I removed the e break cable and was able to pound the ok drum from the other side on but not the new one. anyway the break is locked up on that side and smokes if driven any help would be appeciated Thanks!

I think replacing front pads is ok for the average maintenance mechanic but I always take mine into CarX or Midas for brakes. The last thing I want is what you have or a truck that won't stop. I also think, personally, that drums are much more difficult to deal with.

Did you put a spring kit in too?Sounds like your wheel cylinder is shot:(

I had a similar problem with my BII, and it turned out that the parking brake cable had seized and wouldn't release the parking brake on one side. Just another possible thing to look into.

yea, I'm pretty shure the wheel cylinder is shot that's where the fluid is leaking from and I did put a new spring kik on too the lod ones were to rusted. will a bad wheel cylinder cause the break to engage? I think I'm going to have it towed and fixed I can change the pads but I'm getting over my head now I think!! Thanks for any help

You can change the wheel cylinder out yourself, the bad wheel cylinder could be making the anti lock mess up.If you can do rear pads and springs you can do the wheel cylinder just take your time and soak the fittings real good with penetrating oil.
