Howdy

I've been experiencing tranny fluid loss for some time now. I've also noticed an audible vacuum leak from the vacuum fitting connected to the manifold and the attached vacuum hoses and some type of fluid in those lines. Earlier today, I started the truck and a loud pop and white smoke came from under the hood and the engine stopped. Upon inspection, I discovered that at least two of the vacuum lines blew off the fitting. Are those supposed to be capped off?

After doing some research here on the forum, I believe my problem may be the transmission vacuum modulator.

In the 1991 model, is there an access panel under the front seats? If so, must I remove both seats (I have bucket seats) or just one?

There is 1 or 2 other vacuum ports on the vacuum fitting but I can't find additional hoses inside the engine compartment. Also, I'm not sure if the vacuum hoses go back onto the fitting in a certain order and my shop service manual doesn't seem to show the 4.0 engine vacuum routing, so any help there would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to this forum! The hoses could go back onto the vacuum tree in any order just as long as they fit. They need to have a vacuum source. Check the vacuum line going to the modulator for signs of leaking transmission fluid.

Thanks.

Anyone know if there is an access panel under the seats?
