92 Aerostar. Air bag & brake system questions.

Malk
My wife's Taurus is a 96 3.0L. I dicked around with a lean, bank 1 condition. It turned out to be a transducer in the HEGO system. It converts Vacuum to a readable set of electronic values in your OBD-II PCM. It was a pricey part, but it resolved the issue.

I've run across injector harness connector clips "baked" into brittle condition so as to interrupt incoming signals & responses due to looseness/ intermittent conditions, and readout as lean or sometimes as a "misfire" condition. These plastic connectors are available @ FoMoCo But price is way out of line.

Best solution I found is when I walk thru a U-Pull-It Salvage Yard, carry side cutters & get a set (6) from 2 banks of injectors not under overhanging upper intake plenum. Front Wheel Drive Vehicles it's front facing bank of cylinders. Good news is all 3.0L's use same connector & interchange with each other quite well. Remove connector from injector & clip/cut 2 wires leaving enough so you can see which color goes where later when you are installing them.

A red locking piece holds individual wires inplace inside plastic connector:
1 Press a small lock tab aside & remove red lock piece, freeing wire ends.
2 Repeat procedure on your faulty connectors.
3 place your wire ends in connector as they were in original connector.
4 Push red lock piece in place to hold wires.
5 Return replaced connector on proper injector.

Unfortunately to correctly R&R harness connectors, upper intake plenum must be removed to get access to injectors & harness connectors. It's a "Job" in a engine tunnel of Aerostars, for sure.

'96 is OBD-11 so after replacing transducer or faulty injector connectors be sure to dump your engine codes AFTER you are certain you repaired the problem and run the vehicle. If you dump codes before you are sure you repaired it, you'll be unable to see other "potential causes" for problems.

Hope this helps somebody. . . .
