I just finished putting this motor in. I came out of my 92 xlt and ran perfect when I pulled it out. The truck Idles a little rough but not to bad. when you hit the gas it has no power and starts making a popping type noise. so I set the parking brake and put it into gear and i could hear it. the moter will move, shake when it pops like a miss. when it makes the noise a surge of exhaust will come out. no smoke or any thing it just more exhaust forces out. I have no Idea what it could be. anyones help will be greatly appreciated. If you need more info just ask

My 1st guess is it has something to do with timing. Did the 92 have a distributor? How 'bout them plug wires? Are they in the right place?

most likely the plug wires are on wrong
i think the coil is set up like this
(1)(5)
(2)(6)
(3)(4)
and the front passenger side is cyl #1 and goes back to number 3 then the driver side front is #4 on back to 6 so 1 2 3 front to back on passenger and 4 5 6 on the driver side that would be the very first thing to look at is if the firing order is corect if it is then move onto checking the shap of the wires if they are new then move onto checking the resistance in the coil if it's over 12K ohms then the coil needs replaced

I am a complete idiot. two of the plug wires where switched around. thanks for pointing this out.

don't put yourself down i've done it and trust me many have
