I have a 92 exploder 4 wd just had the front pump and front seal replaced, but when I put it back in the truck it wont shift from first, I hooked up the trans lines and there was a line that ran to almost the back of the trans and hooked onto a round silver thing on the side of the tranny.

I think im missing the vacuum line and thats why it wont shift, there is the right amound of fluid in the trans so I dont think thats the problem, can anyone help me out?

The transmission will shift badly if at all without a correctly working vacuum modulator. Check out 94 will not shift for info and pictures..

ok thanks for pointing that out, im having the exact same problem right now, have every gear except 23 and OD, I will check the line tonight, does the line go up to the rear of the intake manifold or where does it go?

Correct.. The line goes to the rear of the intake manifold and connects to a port on the vacuum manifold.

ok sweet, im actually hoping that its all clogged up lol, they would anwser quite a few prayers. I will check tonight and replace the hose to see what she does and update tomorrow morning, thanks for all your help

if the vacuum modulator on the tranny breaks/cracks then small amount so Trans fluid will get sucked into the intake and burned. The rubber hoses are not rated for ATF and will soften and pull off easily if they have been exposed to it.

how much to replace it?

how much to replace it?

You can buy a new modulator for $15.. I replaced mine by going through the transmission access panel.

I got home too late to do anything with the explorer so im shooting for tonight, I pretty much know thats the problem, atleast im hoping I know. so i'll replace it tonight

ok, I replaced the modulator and replaced the vacuum lines to no avail.

my neighbor came over and we took it for a drive, after I fixed the linkage and kick down cable you can put it in first then shift to second on the colum and it will shift to second and stays there, but then if you shift back down to first it will kick into third gear but no over drive. can anyone help me now??

my dad said I have trash in my valve body so im pulling the pan tonight.

has anybody ever heard of this?

yea I put the pin back in, im gonna rebuild the valve body and if that doesnt work I guess im just gonna yank it again and take it to a shop, i need this thing fixed like now :(
