I recently bought a 92 explorer, 4x4 and I noticed that when I drive, the transmission will take a bit to shift out of first, but when it finally shifts it does great. Now this only happens when i drive it after it has been sitting all night;(once a day) any ideas. Trans and motor have 80'000miles

hows the condition of the trans fluid if it looks dirty but not burnt you can try changing the fluid and filter

Fluid looks fine, I am afraid if I change the filter it will make it even worse

Morning! You may have a stuck governor if it is revving high in 1st when cold before up-shifting. Luckily, you can check/replace the governor in your A4LD without removing the transmission. All you have to do is remove the drive shafts and transfer case to get to it. Check out Glacier991's A4LD rebuild diary for the how-to and what to check on the governor. There is also an upgrade kit with new springs and weight for better shifting.

Good luck!
