Hi. I just bought this truck. The radio powers on and seems to find stations when I hit the seek button but doesn't produce any sound. My mother has a 91 Town Car that does the same thing. I pulled the radios from both and tried each radio in each vehicle and neither would play any sound. Any tips on what to check next would be great. Thanks.

So are you saying that both radios exhibit the same symptoms when you switch them between vehicles? Dumb ?, but... are you sure you are using the controls properly?

My cassette from my 93 would do the same thing sometimes. I took the radio out and gave it a few solid whacks, seemed to work for a while, then it would cut out again. I wanted a factory cd anyway so I found a new one on ebay that had never been used and installed it the other day, no worries! Try there and see about upgrading for very little money. Good luck.

Is your radio the type that has a switch for the volume that you push up to increase the volume and push down to lower the volume? My last truck had a radio like this and the sound started cutting out and finally it ended up like yours, it looked to be working but no sound. I think the volume control dies on most of these radios, I found another in a junk yard that worked most of the time, but most were in the same condition.

If your happy not having a cd player I would just go to wal-mart and buy a cheap radio with tape deck and the kit required to pull it out.

I have my old radio sitting in the garage. Nothing was actually wrong with it, it was just crappy.

Had same problem, replaced with CD player. There is nothing you can do to fix it.

Check out the blue remote wire. Explorers come with a factory amp and if not hooked up properly the radio will work but there will be no sound. I had the same problem when I bought two brand new radios and finally called and asked someone at my local stereo store. The blue remote wire has to be hooked up to the radio and the amp.

Hi. Both the 91 Lincoln and 92 Explorer have very similar radios. I beleave they are the premium radios with cassette players. They have the volume paddle that you push up on to raise the volume and push down on to lower it. I tried both radios in each vehicle just for the hell of it. Both have digital readouts that work and appear to get radio stations in since they stop at the normal stations that we get around here. Yesterday I was messing around with the one in the Lincoln and didn't plug the speaker connector in. I had an extra speaker and touched the pair of wires to the prongs on the back of the radio that go to one of the 4 speakers and I got sound. I tried with a cassette in the player and it worked. So I'm thinking maybe the amps are out on both the Lincoln and Explorer.
