92 Sport
Literally. Hello, my name is zach, I just inherited my families 92 explorer sport. I have a long history with this truck dating back to the day that we bought it. My father purchased the explorer new in 91 as a 92 model. Right after purchasing the 2 door sport model my family was blessed with a new member. ME! :D So that left us with 3 people and 1 car seat to lug around in her. From day one my family has been a ford family and before purchasing the explorer my father owned a taurus wagon. He quickly decided he would rather have 4WD. As I grew up the explorer was always my truck of choice, it was the truck I learned to drive in, the first vehicle I ever took out on a trail, the first (and last) 5 speed SUV I drove. While growing up I would pretend to be a race car driver and shift the gears in the driveway after sneaking out of my parents view as to not get caught messing with the thing. At the age of 9 (2000) I was also envolved in my first accident with the explorer. My parents requested that I go and roll up the windows before it rained. I, being the loving child I am, jumped all over the opportunity of turning the key. I had seen my dad drive it enough to know the clutch had to be engaged to start it, and I did accordingly. As soon as the engine roared (more like hummed) to life I popped the clutch and felt the worst jolt of my life. Miraculously this did not kill the engine and instead of hitting the brakes I hit the gas. Long story short, I drove right into the side of my house. Try explaining that one to the insurance company! But we got her fixed and back on the road in next to perfect condition.

In 2002 my brother recieved orders to be stationed in germany. My brother had been driving the explorer since late 2000 (After hitting the house) He had trouble parting with the gem so he left it in the hands of his wife.(now ex-wife) who somehow managed to reverse all of the hard work we had done to keep the explorer in top shape within a matter of 8 months. My brother was honorably discharged after being wounded and upon returning home found the horror as to what she had done. But he kept true to his word and kept the old girl alive. After 8 years of service to him (and seing him through college) The keys are finally in my hand as I head off into college. I can not recall any major repairs being done while in my fathers possession, but that may be because I was young. But other than standard maintenance it never once gave my brother a hiccup of trouble. Other than clutches, she loves clutches.

So the condensed version:
My explorer has seen every state in the U.S. except alaska and hawaii, has made 6 trips to canada, 3 trips to mexico, towed a boat 1200 miles to fort fisher, NC and has racked over 245k miles on the ORIGINAL drivetrain.

She is not pretty, not fast, and now the 4x4 doesn't work, windows don't go up or down on their own, tail gate glass won't stay up, A/C clutch hums, steering is off a hair, and I LOVE IT! I love that this thing has original HG, tranny, engine, everything! She is tired, and I hope that she can make it to 300k without so much a hiccup. But I have other transportation and this just fell into my lap. The paint is faded, the rockers are rusted, the suspension is stiff, but she is still super quiet, no hums from the tranny. I can say without a doubt this is built ford tough!

I hope to get alot of good use out of her. She will probably be retired to trail rigging or winter duty. As soon as this 4wD issue gets fixed of course.

welcome
