92 Explorer Transmission Questions

My transmission has bit the dust in my 92 Explorer. I have two questions.

#1 I have found a rebuilt transmission with a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty for $525 plus $85 for a new converter. (The new converter is needed for the warranty to be valid because when the transmissions fail they get metal particles throughout the fluid, which can contaminate the old converter, which in turn could contaminate the new transmission and it could blow.) Is this a good price for a rebuilt tranny?

#2 My boyfriend works on cars and his brother is a mechanic for BMW, how hard do you think it would be for them to put in the rebulit tranny? Is it complicated? He mentioned something about it being a bolt on.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I payed 900 Canadian for a used tranny (not rebuilt) so if your funds are put in canadian as well i say YES YES YES, if not then hey, if your tranny is around the same price as mine then it sounds like a good deal, my tranny came with a month warrenty and thats it

Edit- DAMN!!! according to a currency converter you payed about 700 bucks (canadian) for a rebuilt tranny with a new converter with a 1 year warrenty!!!!! I PAYED 900 For a non rebuilt one with the none rebuilt converter and 1 month warrenty

Oh by the way, to take the old tranny out you will need to remove the rear driveshaft, the y pipe for the exhaust, all the electrical for the transmission (not much ) take the tranny cooler lines off, unbolt the torque converter from the engine, unbolt the tranny from the engine and take it out from the bottom (if you have a car lift)

Really it will be straight foward for a mechanic to do, Its not to hard. I didnt do mine because i didnt have the tools or time so i may have forgotten some steps
