92 Factory alarm system problem

Ive got a 92 X 4 dr 2wd XL with the factory security system. When i bought the truck the alarm worked no problem with the key pad. then i let it sit for about 4 months and the battery died and the key pad wouldnt work after that. then one nite it started to work again out of the blue and the next day it stopped. Ive disconnected the battery and when i hook it back up the alarm goes off until i put the key in it and hit the button under the dash. Also the starter interlock still works. Any clues on how to get it working? Thanks.

Sounds like a dealer installed alarm. You could do some troubleshooting or buy an aftermaket alarm. Find the control module.... I'ts usually under the steering column and look for any bad connections.

Ya it is probably a dealer installed alarm but it does include a Ford handbook on how to operate it so it is ford. Any thing else to look for?
