Hi I was wondering what everyone can get out of a tank on a 92' ford explorer? How many miles about? I'm getting about 260-290 miles per tank running it almost out. My parents have a 96 model and get 350-380 per tank, they also have a 21 gallon tank and I have a 19. Please let me know what you get as I am interested in comparing, I dont think im doing so well in the fuel mileage department and I have a k&N filter use valvoline synthetic oil....thanks!

If you really want to get mor mileage from the fill up keep filling after the automatic pump shuts off.
I can usually get about two more gallons in there. (It sound odd but trust me) On an empty tank I have put 20+ gallons in. And yes I do have a 92 with a 19 gallon tank. I can now usually get about 320 per tank.

When we first got this 92 explorer we could get over 300 miles per tank (usually 320 or so). This was with 235x75 street tires. The mileage dropped to around 300 when we went to the 30" tires. The mileage then started to slowly diminish. By the time we did the lift and the 31" tires we were getting 260 miles per tank. With the 31" tires we are now getting around 220 miles per tank. This is actual mileage... (we have had the speedo recalibrated). I almost kinda wish I could blame my tires for the drop in mileage but I can't. It turns out my a4ld is going fast. The tranny has been slipping for quite a while now (I drove another 1st generation explorer and there is a big difference in how they work). Once I get my tranny replaced/rebuild (take it in this Wednesday) I'll check how many miles I get. I am expecting in the high 200's but not quite what I had with stock tires.
