Sounds like a sending unit/float problem. They are located in the fuel tank. You can try banging (rubber mallet) on the tank and maybe it will free itself up.

Welcome to this forum! It sounds like the float has a leak. There is a replacement float available from the dealer for under $10. Before buying a new float, connect an ohm meter onto the output of the sender, and see if your resistance changes proportionally when you move the float arm up, and down.

if it's a 92, then he has the brass float element. And it has cracked, and is filling with gas, then emptying...

drop the tank (there are a few write-ups, with Q&A's here on the site), and replace the float element. You CAN just replace the float, it's cheap. BUT since you already have the tank down, you should just replace the pump while your at it. BUT since your 19, you might not have the ~$100 to spare on a fuel pump that isn't needed TODAY (but it MIGHT be needed soon)....the GOOD thing is, if you DON'T replace the pump NOW, since you have already pulled the tank, you'll be able to do it next time in half the time.
