Hi all,

I did a search first but didnt come up with anything in particular. The wife went to go to work yesterday and the 92 4.0 wont start. It turns over fine and she can hear the fuel pump click on with the key.I am not home for another 10 days.Is there somethings I can get her to check????

Thanks

Scott

She can hear the fuel pump click, but is the engine actually getting fuel? Can she put a fuel pressure gauge on it? Are the spark plugs firing? Are the fuel injectors firing?

This is pretty obvious, but is there gas in the tank? Maybe the sending unit broke (common problem), and she drove it to empty.

...she may hear the click but does she hear the fuel pump whir by the left rear tire when some one turns the key on???if not, it could be a fuel pump relay, or a fuel pump, or a guage, or???
...anyways, if it is just a relay, here is a link for you...:D

Thanks for the responses. She hears the fuel pump whirr, the sending unit is all new (couple weeks agao). There is gas in the tank as she filled it up on her way home. After cranking it for a bit she says she can smell gas.Maybe im wrong but this lends me to believe its a spark issue.Anything that goes on these all of a sudden?????

thanks again

Check the vacuum lines on the vacuum tree drivers side by the firewall. If one of those lines come off, it can make it very hard (if not impossible) to start.

Guys, If that ECC relay ***** the bed, will she get Gas and No Spark??

Just looking for something that would Just go bad where the car is fine one day and dead the next. The Vaccuum Lines on the Intake Manifold is a good point.

It will be easy to see if there is a nipple with no Line attached.

Kudos for her being so in tuned to the car. My wife is the same.

" Tony, this weekend check the Pickup truck, Sounds like the Power Streeing Pump is getting tired." Sure enough, I guess GM's power steering pumps are only good for 310000 miles. : )

Possibly, but not usually. The PCM is responsible for closing the fuel pump relay. If the EEC relay isn't closing, the PCM can't close the fuel pump relay, and the fuel pump would do nothing.

Thanks for the input, sorry about the delayed responses,we dont have computers underground, lol. She checked for any vacume lines that may have come off and doesnt appear to be any.She took a couple photos for me and I dont pick up anything obvious. She called the neighbour to come up and look at it and he says its flooded. That might be true now but doesnt say why it wouldnt start before hand. This truck has run and started top notch, for it to just not start now seems puzzleing to me.If there are any other suggestions I would appreciate it.The wifes getting antsy being stuck at home.

Ok she got the truck fired up.She pumped the gas a few times and it started but she had to hold her foot to the floor for a bit in order for it to run.She says its idling fine now.Any ideas on what would cause tis? Just flooded?

thanks for the help

Tune up problem?

If you have not done a major tune up, now would be good a time as any. Also, all the things that they put in are fuel " to make it better" you may have gotten some bad gas. I would also look for possible vacuum leaks, you can find those with a can of carb cleaner. I work on old cars, but these same princliples still apply.
