I have a 92 EB X 4x4 which I am lifting 4" next week (superlift kit w/ rancho9s). Also, I really don't know what else is available for my 92 X, am new to all of this, but want to have more fun than I've had off road up to now. I have ridden bikes, YZ 250, all my life, but am just starting with more car off roading. Up to now just around the mojave, manley pass, goler area.
Also any tips as to whether the 4" superlift :chug: :chug: is a good idea or :nono: not Anyone with experience or any suggestions as to what tires to go with the lift and whether my 15" rims are OK let me know what you think. I have learned everything I know about 4 wheeling from reading posts here until my vision blurred around 1 a.m. over the last few weeks. So thanks to all of you that I have already learned so much from!!!! :burnout:

Once it's up there you can fit 32" or possibly 33" tires. You can stick with 15" rims. For power, you can get a larger mass air flow sensor, larger throttle body, K&N or KKM cone filter, better flowing muffler, engine chip. If you have the money and the desire, there are superchargers available. All kinds of stuff you can add. A good place to check out is explorer express.
Also, depending on your diff gear ratios you may want to change them before putting on the larger tires.

Thanks Bashman. I have a flowmaster exhaust and just the K&N filter, but not one of those cones. Power feels nice. I don't know what a "larger mass air flow sensor" is or what it does, but I will search for it. I am learning about gear ratios. I don't know what they are for my 92 EB 4x4. I do understand the concept of a larger tire having a greater circumference and therefore covering more ground with the same axle rotation, i.e. bigger tire=faster at same revs, but less power... making Overdrive great for long hauls on flat roads, but nothing else. Do those chips really work... I saw somehitng on ebay for $10 that is supposed to trick your air sensor .... do those work? Or are you talking about the Hypertech chips? Anyway, this baby is getting fixed up to off road with a '91 Isuzu trooper and a 2002 land rover disco... my disco friend is very 'elite' and just talks about articulation and that nothing touches the land rover.... I don't know if my X will, but there's a lot of love in that wagon!!!!

Regarding the "larger mass air flow sensor (MAS) and throttle body (TB), the biggest problem our 4.0 OHV has is a restricted air intake flow. By replacing the stock units with larger ones you greatly increase the amount of air reaching the engine. The MAS simply meters the amount of air entering and sends it to the computer. To find your gear ratios, there is a code for them located on your diver's side door then check the VIN info thread in "useful threads". Engine chips = Hypertech, Jet, Apten, Diablo. The $10 resistors sold on e-bay do not work.

Thanks again. I will take some pics of my explorer before and after the lift to post up here. So begins the transformation. I will begin the air intake trek this weekend by cleaning the MAS and making another hole in my airbox. I will also order a chip. I might even order a new conical air filter like those I see all over. Are there any just for the 92 older type explorers? I checked K&N and they only list to 97?

For the cone filter, check out Kurtz Kustomz. The nice thing about this version is it is half the price of the K&N yet uses the exact same filter and it comes with the necessary adapter plate and bracketry for our 1st Gens.
