'92 XLT
Hello,
I just lucked into a mint condition '92 XLT with less than 40,000 miles on her. It litterally belonged to grandma! It's obviously not been used much. Naturally, it runs great, but should I do anything to "recondition" the old girl? It does seem to idle in subtle surges in our cold Alaskan mornings. Should I do anything to the 4WD components? All the fluids have been replaced. Any advice?

If I wanted to put larger tires on the stock rims, how big could I go and not suffer rubbing or poor road performance?

You guys are great!:D

i smell trouble. a buddy of mine bought a 91 escort with 43,000 miles on it, and when he got it home, it worked fine. or so he thought. as time went on, he noticed that there was a cracked piston head, very little compression. and 2 years down the road he shot 2 rods into the engine compartment, nearly knocking them through the hood.

get it checked by a very through mechanic, and get anything suspicious replaced right away.

other than that, give her a wash, and chrissin (however you spell it, its what you do to ships) her and give her a name.

Make sure the 4x4 (t/f case and auto hubs) works before you get out and really need it. If they are not used on a regular basis, things tend to freeze up. The link below is to a site with lots of diagnostic and maintenance info for the early explorers like yours. Welcome to the site and good luck with the Ex! Dead Link Removed

Man, what a deal! Early Ex with low miles, have fun with it.

92 XLT's are notorious for sucking all of the money out of your bank account, and have been linked to all kinds of strange medical condition. Me and my 92 XLT disposal team will be up there shortly to remove all traces of the bad boy from the pristine Alaskan wilderness.:D :D :D

Sounds like my 92 sport! When I got it I think about 3 years ago it had 42 or 48k miles on it. Since then I have gotten it up to 80k. Mine was driven by a teacher barly then before that some old couple owned it.

Its getting worn out now, but thats just from my driving ways with it. :D

come on 92 with only 80, and its getting worn out. i got a 93 with 197, its just starting to get tired
