93 explorer sport 2dr
i have a 93 2dr explorer sport. i have had this ticking problem for 5 years. it only ticks for a few moments. the amount of ticking time depends on how cold it is out side. in the summer i rearly ticks. in the really cold winter it can tick for upto a few minutes. it hasent gotten weres or better. any thoughts.

on the front axle convertion i used a jeep cherokee axle. i also uesd the jeeps steering components. the only problem i am having is that the ball joint that goes into the pitman arm is to small for my ford. i guess the jepps pitman are isnt as strong as a ford. i would like to know if a ford ball joint will fit into the jeeps joint with out any mods. if not is there a joint that will fit my pitman arm and screw into the jeeps linkage. i dont like talking it to local shop here in utah because if you dont have a jeep they dont want to help. they also make fun of my for putting a jeep axle into a ford.

thanks in advance for the help if any one need info on the axle swap i have pics and and i will putt together a document on how to do it. i used leaf springs in the front just so you know. my ford with front and stock rear leaf springs also out flexed a 98 jeep wrangler with a $1500.00 dollar teraflex lift. i spend about $1000.00 dallors in parts for the swap and also my own 10inch lift with new shocks and extended drive lines. knowing what i know now i could probably do it cheaper know.

the ticking for a few seconds is normal for most cars. duration and sound can change depending on the engine, its oiling system, and what oil is in the engine. lighter weight oil will start moving faster in cold weather than thicker oil. the more it warms up the faster it starts moving.

My 99 ticks for a good 10-20 minutes upon start up, I remember my old bronco had the same tick on start up. The V6 motors don't get enough oil up to the rocker arms as they should upon starting.
