I've done some reading up on other threads but can't seem to find anything on my specific problem. One of my 93 Explorer XLT's does in fact have the factory keyless entry system. Green anti theft light, auto dim mirror and module over wheel well. For some reason, the door locks fully cycle every time I turn the ignition. KOEO and KOER, doesn't matter. My other 93 Ex doesn't have the anti theft system and has never done this. I really don't want my lock motors wearing out prematurely. Any ideas what it could be? Is the module stuck in program mode? No aftermarket stuff in the Ex either.

Try unplugging the wire harness from the box above the wheel well, & plug it back in. May reset the system.

I have big hands, would disconnecting the battery terminals for 2 mins accomplish the same thing?

No luck disconnecting the wiring harness, still doing the same thing. Any ideas?

Kinda sounds like what it's suppose to do when your programming new remotes.

Check the jumper harness in the jack compartment and make sure no one put a wire in place.

This is what the jumper harness looks like.

Just pulled the cover off and checked that harness, doesn't look like it's ever been touched. Tried using a paper clip To get it into program mode and nothing happened. the locks cycled through like they have been before I put the jumper in. Definetly seems like it's stuck in program mode like you said. Should I replace the whole module or trace the wires back to see if they are somehow shorted together before the prog. harness you mentioned? Pull a part just got a late model 94 limited in that I could rob parts from. Would a 94 system transfer over to a 93? not finding too much info online about these 1st gen factory systems. All I know is the Anti theft and keyless are two seperate systems tied together. I'm 90% sure this prob has nothing to do with the antitheft mod. but I've been wrong before. Not sure what to do next. Thanks for the help so far guys!

I'd trace the wire's first to check for a short. If there isn't one next step would be replacing the module like you said. The 94 one should work in place of the 93 one.

What anti-theft mod are you talking about? I've never heard of modding the anti theft.

I think it takes longer to reset anti-theft. I have read 1/2-hour, and I think I read somewhere here that is might be overnight.

I always had to leave my battery unhooked over night because of anti-theft problems. My alarm would go off for no reason and every time it rained I was left footin it.

As for key less entry, I believe my ex had it at one time or another. I know if has a box inside the drivers door. I am not 100% sure what it goes to but mine has broken resisters inside of it. I thought about unplugging it, but won't until I know what its for.

I'd ditch it. Just unhook the system. Install a DEI. Pretty easy to install on the X. No fancy adapters or strange wiring needed & all the colors can be found on http://www.the12volt.com/

Okay... I did some troubleshooting and it wasn't a shorted wire pair, it was the module itself. I grabbed that one out of the 94 limited and it works great! Thanks for your help Will. To cover myself in the future, I think I'm going to get another anti theft and keyless entry module for backup purposes just in case I have problems again. Somebody already put duct tape over the anti theft module in my truck a looong time ago because there was tons of dust over the top of it. I laughed when I saw the tape but it just goes to show you really can use the stuff for almost anything. Don't know why they didn't do the keyless module while they were there.Must have run out of tape... Either way, I don't know what happened. No signs of water entry or damage. Weird. Just glad my door locks aren't cycling every time I turn the ignition switch now!!!

FYI to everyone else with 93-94 FACTORY INSTALLED SYSTEMS:
Keyless modules (black box with three harnesses, closest to your washer fluid box) will transfer over between 93's and 94's but the Anti theft modules (off white box with two white harnesses, immediately to the right of black box) WILL NOT!!! On the TSB I looked at on ALLDATA it showed 2 different part numbers and the parts guy at my local Ford Dealer verified this for me.a Trying to do so will cause major problems.
Also, if your truck didn't come with keyfobs and you have the electronics group you can buy one online. keyfobs with non rubber padded (aka... plastic) buttons can be programed to work with 93-97 explorers and rangers. TRW's (name of company who made them for ford) number for them is 3165189. FCC number is GQ43VT4T. If you find one with a blue trunk button, those will work too, minus the the trunk button.

Isn't that box for the auto down drivers window?

Glad I could help. I might have to grab one the next time I see a limited just in case mine dies.
