Noticed them SC kits for under 2000 bucks and wondered if they would work on my 01 X? If so, Whats involved and or needed besides what the kit provides? If it wont work, why not? and what kit will work? Theres got to be an afordable SC or turbo kit that will work. I like a kit idea so i can bolt it all on with little guess work and it will fire up and run corectly when im done.
Ok, So being there both the same engine. Both vehicles would have the AC, ALT, WP and PS is the problem here that all those things are located differently on the explorer engine rather than the mustang your saying?
Making a SC kit takes time and material. Material is cheap time is expensive.
So if you have found a SC kit for less than 2000 dollars that means whoever made it didn't spend any time on it. So it crap.
I don't like the vortec centrifugal blowers. They don't make much boost. They don't make boost until high RPM. You would be better of to get a turbo.
I saw some turbos on ebay for less then 100 dollars.
I suggest getting a large one from a Cummings diesel. 100+ millimeters. And a small one maybe 40 millimeters.
The small one will spool first and give you maybe 2 PSI boost and around 4000 RPM the large one will spool and you will have more boost than you could ever use. so just have a blow off set at 15 PSI.
Mount them were the spar tire goes. Leave the air filter under the hood run plastic pipe back to the turbos then run pipe back up to the TB make sure you draw through the MAF and mount the intake air temperature near the TB but after the Turbo.
Turbos $300
turbo repair $200 (seals, cleaning)
Plastic tube from filter/MAF to turbos $30
tube from turbo to TB might have to be made out of metal, depending on how hot the air is coming out of the turbo is. I do see people using rubber connections to mount metal tubes. So it must not get to hot. $30 for plastic or $200 for metal.
Blow off $150
oil lines $50 (tap into oil after oil cooler.)
Injectors $200
lighting MAF $150
SCT tuner $300
So around $1500 and a lot of time on your part, you will have something better then the vortect.
