93 X stock sound system left side out .

I've got a 93 explorer sport
The left speakers are both out .. unless you turn up the volume a whole bunch at that point it goes from completely quiet to blasting.
I pulled the speaker out of the door and tested it .. it was ok.. I put in another known good one and it was ok.
I pulled the radio and wiggled the wires in the back
(2 different size plugs also has the jumper deal)
and this didn't make a difference
Anyone know what the deal is with this ?

The radio itself probably has a short in the volume control. Might be time for a new radio!!!

One thing I forgot to mention is that you can make both speakers on the left pop if you use the fader control

Do you have the base model OE audio or the enhanced? If you have the enhanced then there is an amp behind the rear left quarter panel. If that is blown or the connections loose at the amp it can cause popping to occur and also the quiet and blast as you described. If interested send me your email and I will send you a wiring schematic of either base or enhanced or both if you would like.

I'm pretty sure I have the premium one

back of stereo has 2 plugs one for the lights power etc
and another one thats kind of a din plug. there is a spot for a couple of jumpers as well.


it kind of does sounds like a bad connection or cold solder thing.

I just found the faq to remove the panel to get access to the amp that looks like fun
