I have a 94 Ranger 4.0L. It will not start after it sits for about 10-15min. This problem has been going on for quite a while - now I am getting the following codes out of the computer - 157, 158, 173, 175, 177 and 189. I am not a mechanic and not sure what the definitions of these codes really mean. Does anyone have any ideas? It used to hiccup on hot days going uphill -- Today it started bucking and sounded like it just couldn't get itself together...

Here's what I could find on your codes:

157 - Manifold Air Flow sensor fault, low voltage
158 - Manifold Air Flow sensor fault, high voltage
173 - Heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor fault/rich bank #1
175 - Heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor fault/not switching bank #2 or fuel system at adaptive limits
177 - Heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor fault/lean bank #2
189 - Heated exhaust gas oxygen sensor fault unable to switch/lean during part throttle bank #2

It sounds to me like you have 1 or both O2 sensors bad and that your MAF could use a cleaning.

Thanks -- I replaced to O2 sensors and still had the problem. Found a reman MAF sensor and replaced it -- as it sits right now, things seem better. Don't want to say it is fixed yet, but maybe.....
