Hi guys, long time no post. I'm experiencing technical difficulties with the auto trans in my 94 4x4 EB Explorer.
Symptoms over the past month include increasingly laggy shifting into gears especially on high throttle. Lowering throttle % seems to help a bit but not totally. On rare occasions, the transmission when first placed into OD after reversing out of the driveway, will do nothing. After throttling it a bit, the truck will lurch forward with a loud CLUNK in the rear. This has happened twice, but definately not a good thing.
After researching I see that this transmission is called the AL4D.
Would checking the vaccum modulator or kickdown cable be a good set of first steps? I honestly have no experience with these components (or auto transmissions in general).
The truck was bought at 120K, has 135K, previous owner says it has a "rebuilt" trans that acted fine for the first 10K of my owning. After purchasing the truck, I changed the trans filter and fluid. Currently, fluid level and color are normal.
Long story short, I believe there is some clutch slipping going on. Any replies/advice is appreciated.
Best regards,
- Jay
