seriously I don't have a scope im looking for the old fashioned view of proper intake and egr cleaning

It is pretty straightforward, the EGR valve is attached to the EGR tube with a nut fitting and two bolts attach the valve to the intake. May be a bracket to remove that holds the EGR vac solenoid. Some PB (penetrating blaster) and a large adjustable wrench should make the tube nut come off easily enough. Believe there is also a vacuum line going to the valve.

Once you scrape the carbon and gunk out of the valve, you can test function pretty easily. Attach a length of vac hose to the valve and suck on it - the valve should actuate, and if the diaphragm is good it should hold vacuum without leaking down.

thanks I was trying to get it from a different text explanation from a 96

any word to the wise about taking off the plenum what does it look like under there a lot of vids show gunked up passage on the intake itself but havnt seen the explorers plenum off

Only recommendation is to have a new intake manifold gasket ready. Sometimes you can re-use them but personally I like to have a new one each time to avoid problems.

Once the upper manifold is off you can clean it any way you want. Most won't have a lot of gunk other than a thin layer. If you want it shiny clean inside, you could remove all sensors, spray cleaner inside to break up the gunk and pressure wash it out.

egr holds vac from outside I get a nice hollow sound when spraying carb cleaner in the access way I see two other plug points but im going to look elsewhere for sputter passing gear seems clean enough but ive seen these totally caked

on my egr tube going to the valve there are 2 little hoses coming off it, one goes to an aluminum boxnext to the egr, the other id have to check. whats all that stuff? im not sure if the hoses are run right and what the are supposed to do.
