94 explorer 4x4 4.0 suspension

i was looking to lower my explorer a bit around 2 inches front and 3 in the back a little more would be fine does anyone know were i can buy the springs and roughly how much they would run me? and if springs is the way to do it ? im not really sure!

Most guys here are trying to lift their Explorers, not lower them, but you're in luck.

Out back, you can use some blocks, which due to the "spring under" setup (the springs run over the axle, which sits under the springs) adding blocks lowers the truck the amount of the blocks.

Up front, you can just clip a coil or two from the top of the spring. If it doesn't work out, there are plenty of stock springs to be had to restore the ride height.

I'd use a cut-off wheel to cut the front coils.

You may also need to use shorter shocks, but the stockers will probably work out OK for as much as 2" drop. Any more radical than that will require some additional work.

i was thinkign about clipping them but it makes me nervous i dont understand what your saying about the back but ill rip a wheel off tomoro and take a look i jsut need to see it to understand! isnt tehre some kinf of platform for the springs to rest flat on the top of the spring wich would make it more complicated than jsut clipping them?

The top of the front springs is fairly generic. Just a plate with a place for the "ear" of the spring to sit. If you clip a coil at the right place, it will drop right in, just like stock.

I've clipped a lot of coils on other stuff, but not for an Explorer, but the procedure is the same.

Out back, a quick look will show you just what I'm talking about -- blocks will lower instead of raise the Explorer, becasue the springs sit under the axle (so a block would raise the axle tube in relationship to the springs) which will lower, not raise the truck.

or if you have a 4 door, you could swap in 2 door leaf springs to drop it a bit (and keep some ground clearance)

ok so im an ideot would the blocks go between the leaf and the axle? with the u bolt going over top of the axle or wat!
