94 explorer Band broken

Question is can I just replace the Broken Band?

The bands are all internal, so you would have to open it up completely to replace. How do you know the band is broken? Did you see part of it in the pan? Sometimes people turn the adjusting stud too far out, and drop the apply strut. That is possible to reinstall without taking everything apart, but is a little on the difficult side.

Yes I have the parts from the trans Pan. the Trans is out of the truck (am using a trans I got off of ebay and its slipping) The trans with the broken Int. Band worked fine just had a shifting problem into 2nd (had to be very light on gas). I need to get a working trans back into the explorer asap so I can drive to do my Air Force duty once a month. I am using wife's Winstar for now.

If you read Glacier991's A4LD rebuild diary, you will see a step by step procedure on how to disassemble the transmission, and replace the band. It's a sticky in the transmission section.
