94 Ranger idle high after 50 miles.

I have a 94 ranger with a 3.0 that runs great, but when I drive to work (55miles ) when I get off the x-press way I put in the cluch and the motor will hit 4800 rpms, I peg the gas for a sec and it will go back down until the next cluch, (I run 40 mile on the x-pressway). Then I sht it off at work, IT is fine when I come out and restart it. today it did it on the way home, I stopped by my shop, and shut it off, and it was doing it all the way to the shop!
I went in and got another TPS and come out, for the fun of it, I started it. It ran normal???? any ideas???

i'll take a stab at it .... the first thing i would do is check the cable and make sure it's not binding up anywhere under the hood and the foot well .
second i would check the linkage on the tb ...makeing sure the spring and levers are greased and the butter fly is not sticking from to much carbon build up on the inside of the unit .third if all those are ok then i would check the tps if thats ok then the iac .

about the tps and iac .... about a month ago i was haveing problems with the truck idleing correctly and surgeing while in gear traveling down the road at highway speeds .if the tps is going bad it could be telling computer / iac to let in more air but 4k rpms is quite a lot( thats why i think yours is maybe more of a linkage problem than sensor) ...when tracking down my problems i tested every thing ( twice ) and i too thought my tps was going bad because in the hanyes manual problems with the tps /iac/ egr will give you same symptoms with rpms states .

i assume that before you replaced the tps you dis-connected the battery before so ?

does it do it only after traveling after a while ? and not cold ( engine temp wise ) ? if so then it could be what said before with the linkage/cable ....cold the mechanical parts work like they should but after warming up and getting hot ....metal linkage and cables expand from heat and then thats when you start to run in to problems .

I did not replace anything today.
I replaced the IAC last week. When It was bad the truck would idle from 1500 to 500 rpms but never die. but sound like it had a cam.. I had some people actully ask me! Funny!

But this was doing this extream idle after a long run then also.. but I will clean the crap out of the inside and out. Thanks.

Ps this is for rangers, exporers and mountaineers right? or am I miss under standing the fourm title? thanks

Try some spray chain/cable lube. Take off the throttle cable, and hold it up toward the hood, and spray the cable guide. Leave it up so the lube works itself down inside the cable. Hook it back up after 10 minutes, and then work the gas pedal to make sure that it's working.
