Hi, I have read soo much on here and have fixed both my rangers alot thanks to all the helpfull post and love to work on cars or trucks, but im stumped as to what just happened to my 94 ranger stx 4x4 4.0L automatic 163xxx. Ok so i bought this 94 about 2 months ago for 1100.00 with no working 4x4 the guy said it needed a 4x4 switch, so i bought one still nothing i did my home work and tested all the wires and came down to the t-case motor well i bought a reman for 80.00. I took it for a ride the t-case was working, the 4x4 lights were on, but no front wheel locking.
I read all the post on here put my manual warns on and i had 4x4.Now my dad and i bought a small snowbear plow to do our driveway and a few friends, and took the truck for a ride. Well 20 mins into driving the truck started to get hot now the temp has jumped around since i bought it, but this time it stayed by Hot so i stopped and she was over heating bad. Well we look at everything and found the plow blade was too high and not getting air, well i let it cool down and lowered the blade and all was fine, but later that night we got snow took the truck out and plowed our driveway and a friends.
The next day we went to clean up our friends and all was fine, till we were ready to take off and it sounded like a baseball card in a bike spoke. We went up a small hill and it was like the truck went into Neutral.I poped the hood checked the fluid i saw nothing on the stick. now this trans was just rebuilt about a year ago i was told and belived it since the y pipe was cut to get it out and the trans looks like new and the bolts have wrence marks and the fluid was nice and red when i looked at it before i bought the truck. So i had to have the truck towed home. i put fluid in when hot and in park i then tried to shift through the gears it wound up like it was going to move but nothing. I have read that the t-case could have went out? or the trans pump? i hope someone can help me understand whats going on. Ive never rebuilt a trans or ever fried a trans so i never had to deal with this and ive owned 6 rangers now. i hope i put all the info thats needed and what happened to get some help.
