94 Ranger XLT 4x4
New to the forum, Looking at 94 XLT 4.0 with 160K miles for my son for school. I'm curious if it's worth plunge? Asking price is $3000 but probably will lower. Single owner, and the truck is exterior & interior is surprisingly clean. Any known issues with 94? Thanks in advance.

The big weak link in Rangers and Explorers of that generation is the auto trans. I believe 94 had a few improvement tweaks to the A4LD trans that earlier years did not have. Maybe check the color of the fluid. Or maybe the truck has a 5-speed?
The 4.0 is a great engine, lasts a long time.
Mileage is low, if it's accurate, that would explain the good overall condition...
I would swing your best deal for it.

Not sure where you live, but around here $3000 is alot of money for a 1994 anything.
you can probably get a 2000 with less miles for that much

I got a '94 xlt single cab and it treats me great. a little cold blooded but shes never had any problems. i'd probably offer them $2,250 for it and see where it goes from there

It does depend on what part of the country you're in.
Here in So Calif where vehicles seldom ever have a speck of rust on them $3000 asking price isn't that far out of line IF it's a 4x4 (he didn't specify that nor lists where he is). $3K is a bit on the high side for a 2WD truck with that mileage though.

'93 & '94 were IMO the best-built years for these vehicles. However they are approaching two decades old now so even at that some issues here & there should be expected (mostly usual stuff like balljoints/bushings/u-joints/etc.).

I have a 94 reg cab 2 wheel drive 3.0 auto that is pushing 250,000 miles and nothing has ever been done to it other than normal maintenance and one rear end(my fault). The 4.0 is a great running engine, dad has a 93 ext cab auto 4x4 with 145,000 on the clock that he just bought for $1500. Truck is great other than some minor interior electrical problems with the windows and door locks. I would check it out as best as I could and just try to deal with the seller.
