I took the amplifier out and cut the wires back to the back of the passenger side door where they connect to the other wires. I then ran 14 gauge wire from the head unit speaker outputs to these wires. Once I turn the radio up loud though I have a problem with the speakers crackling. Not even to extremes, and I keep the bass at 0 on the head unit. like centered. the treble I usually keep at 2. The headunit has 45x4w outputs and the speakers are 220 w max.

Could this be because of going from 14 gauge wire to what looks like 20 gauge. Also the speaker wire runs parallel to the power wire for my amp and also the rca cables for the amp. One other thing I thought of doing was putting bass blockers but dont know how much they will help.

First off your post is confusing. Are you running the speakers off the head unit and you have a amp for subwoofers? If you are running the speakers off the head unit does it whine when you rev the motor? If so i'd check the ground. Also make sure that the wire ran from the stereo to the speaker does'nt have any bare metal (ie the connections you made) at a minimum make sure they have electrical tape on them. Also move the power wire away the rca cable and speaker wire. If your stereo has a highpass filter on it turn it on, that will only be a bandaid fix though.

crackling can be cuased by several things.... bad ground, a short, or jsut really crummy wiring... sine you said you run differnt guage wires and splice them in at some point, how are your connections? if they are jsut twisted with electrical tape im almost sure thats your problem... they should at the least be shrinkwraped and soldered

i got crimp connectors on them. I have the wire to run directly to each speaker (have not done it yet though...was waiting for some imput) so I may do that. I do not have a highpass filter which maybe one of the problems. if I use bass blockers will that assist at all? also with these explorers is there a way to rid the hood mounted antenna and go to some type of window mount or will that cause too much of a drop in reception range? if you IM me if you are confused it may be easier for me to explain.
Also I may clean up my wiring behind the head unit. It's not the prettiest thing in the world with the power wires

Edit- the amp is powering 2 10" subs
head unit is Sony model CDX-1150
speakers are 6x8 Pioneer model KFC-C6879ie
have freq response from 30HZ- 28,000HZ
91W sensitivity
rated watts.....55watts

the bass blockers are the same thing as a high pass filter just physical vs electronic, just clean up your wiring and see if that helps

cleaned up the wiring sounds better but still not great...sounds like something is rattling in the doors, checked all the bolts, etc. and nothing is loose, any suggestions on what it might be?
