First off i'm a newbie to 4x4 and exploers! here goes the question i have the 94 explorer sport with the auto hubs. And would like to get rid or them entirely like on the 95+ sports. Would i have to get a whole 95 front axel to accomplish this feat? Or is there a conversion or parts i could order? main factor is they are ugly and hard to find decent looking wheels for without drilling!

You'd probably have to get a whole '95 drivetrain (minus the engine). It's an entirely different system from what I understand. The '95 and up (at least some) are automatically engaging 4x4 system, almost an AWD system.

Are you going to be using the 4x4 system at all? If not, you could do a 4x4 to 2x4 (two wheel drive) conversion, but it would probably cost more than it is worth. The autohubs are ok if you maintain them properly. Mine lasted 8 years and I beat the crap out of my truck, before I learned how to maintain it....

I still beat the hell out of it (one of the reasons I think it has held up so well) but I take much better care of it now.

If you want to change the 4x4 system from your version to a newer one though, it can be done... if you have the money. :D

it would be extremely difficult to convert the suspension on a 94 to the style thats on a 95. you would have to do alot of custom fabricating. Your best bet is to ditch the auto hubs and pick up a good pair of manual locking hubs.

I just put the manual hubs in mine. It took about 30-45 minutes and it is well worth the money. One new auto hub was $264 w/ a military discount and I got both manuals and the conversion kit for $200

It's totally impossible to do really without getting an entirely new crossmember welded into your truck to drop the IFS subframe down to where it should be.

i wont say it cant be done....anything is possible

but why would you want to ditch the autohubs other than the fact they are crappy? why not go with manuals as opposed to the 95+ type?
