- 1994 Explorer Xlt 4x4
Hello, my 94 explorer xlt is due for ball joints (3 of the 4 are bad) they've begun to squeek to the point where i can't ignore it anymore ( they squeek/chirp even when i run over those little lane marker bumps on the local streets, and when im turning into my driveway when my passanger side tire goes up and over the bump into my driveway it makes a very noticeable clunk sound and its extremely loud) and i'll be replacing the tie rods while we do the ball joints to get those out of the way, does anybody know about how much it would cost to take it to a shop to have it done? Me and my dad dont want to even attempt to do this ourselves, due to busy work schedules and lack of tools to do it. When my dad had his 1990 Ranger's ball joints done back in '93 he said it cost him $800, but i dont know how accurate that is. So does anybody know of a chain of shops ( or any shops here in vegas, if any vegas locals are reading this) that'll do this and wont charge an arm and a leg to do it, or has anybody recently paid anyone to have this done? Because i dont want to end up spending more than the cars worth just to replace the ball joints, i can do the tie rods myself. And which is the best brand to buy when it comes to ball joints?
